Mission Statement

To raise funds for Children's Charities through safe and fun Family Entertainment

History of DHP

In 1992 Mike & Kathy Marcrum took their daughter to a Halloween Carnival at the local school with some friends and their children. That night the two Dads talked about making a haunted house the next year for the kids in the area to enjoy such as they had when they were kids. Well the next Halloween came and the Marcrum's decided to do just that. With a hay bale, a cauldron with some dry ice, and their daughter Khristy dressed as a gypsy a yearly tradition was started. Each year the yard display became larger and larger, the last year at the original location Mike completely enclosed his front hard and covered it to make his first Haunted House.

With the growth of the haunt and the kindness of people wanting to donate money to help pay for the event it was decided to start a nonprofit and give the money to local Children's Charities. While that was in progress groups such as "The Valley of the Moon Children's Home" collected donations at the Haunt themselves. The first year over $900 was raised for this wonderful group. They are now called the "Valley of the Moon Children's Foundation".

In 1999 Dragon's Head Productions was born. Family and friends that had helped with the haunt over the years sat for nights working on the paper work for getting the nonprofit status. After many a night trying to get this down without the price of a legal aide the papers were sent in. May of that year a 501(c)(3) status was granted and a whole new journey began.

First Check
Left to Right: Renee' Ridge Board of Directors, Marty Close Chairman of the Sonoma Children's Cancer Foundation,
Mike Marcrum President of Dragon's Head Productions.

The first official check presented was to Marty Close of the "Sonoma Children's Cancer Foundation".  The group was founded in 1997 by  Michelle Bertrand, then a 13-year-old leukemia survivor, and Steve Webster, a friend of the Bertrand family who had survived Lyme’s disease at a young age. The group has since changed their name to the "Children’s Cancer Community".  Over the next few years several thousands of dollars were raised and gladly donated to this wonderful cause. There were other charities out there that also needed help. The group found that new smaller charities were
happy with donations of any size and were more open to also sharing in the fun of the unique way of raising it.

The haunt grew as the need to raise more money grew. In 2005  Lars and Sharlene McIntyre, two of the volunteers of  Dragon's Head Productions, donated a canvas 120'x80' tent to house the haunt in. This plus many donations from businesses and friends in the haunt field brought a big change in the look and level of the experience.

Dragon's Head Productions has given to many nonprofits over the years and will continue to do so.
DHP is a totally volunteer group with no one getting any kind of salary or payment of any type. All the funds
raised at our events go to keeping DHP going and to Children's Charities around the Sonoma area.
The giving volunteers are what make this wonderful group such a success.

If you are interested in more information please contact Kathy and she will get back to you as soon as possible.
