As it
was told to me, and my mother before me, and her mother before her. And
as I will tell my daughter and she her daughter, and on for more
life times than we can count, I will now tell you the legend of
Dragon's
Head Inn

At
the time this legend began there were Knights jousting
for the hand of young maidens. There were Kings ruling over land as far
as one could see. And there was a Inn where a weary traveler of any
land could stop and warm himself in front of a fire, and partake of a
sip of ale to help shake off the cold from the inside out.
The owners of the Inn knew no bounds to their kindness and generosity.
A stranger was never worried about asking for a bed for the night or a
bite of food to quiet his growling innards.
Dragon's Head Inn was perched on a hill overlooking the valley of a
very unfavorable King.
This King took all
for himself and felt no pity for the common man , woman
or child. The only thing he had even less respect for were the Dragons.
Yes, this was a time of Dragons. On any given day a person could see
many a Dragon flying across the sky. Now I hear it said that the people
of your time believe that Dragons were mean and fierce creatures,
but trust me when I say that they were never of the sort.
The Dragon's left
man alone
as long as man did likewise. Some men and women even came to trust the
Dragon's and befriend them. The trust
of a Dragon was a honor, and one very few were ever known to have.
Now Lord & Lady Dragon, owners of the Inn, were said to be
one of these chosen few. It's been said
that at one
time a Dragon protected Lord Dragon in a battle against the
King, stopping him from taking over his land and the Inn.
And it is for this
reason,
and this reason alone they say, that the King called forth the demons
of Hades to fight a battle for him. A battle that would destroy the
land, the people, and all but the very last of the Dragons.
It was All Hallows Eve when the King took to the lair of a
evil
wizard, and with the blood of his own daughter paid the wizard to raise
the dead.
These Death Demons
rose out of the ground rotting and smelling of many many
years of decay and torture. Dressed as the warriors they had been in
life they came forth from the ground with weapons of pure evil.
The King commanded the Death Demons to go forth and destroy that which
did not bow to his wishes. And the King told them he would except
nothing less than every Dragon being killed and burned so
that he may bury their ashes himself.
The eldest and wisest of the Dragon's saw what was to come and warned
that the end of their time was near.
Upon
looking into the future he found that at some time there would be a
person wise enough and strong enough to protect Dragons, but that time
might be very very far off, and not a season that the wise Dragon
would be around to see.
The Elder Dragon went to the only persons that he could find trust,
Lord & Lady Dragon. He told them what he had seen of the fate of
his kind and asked of them a favor far greater than any they had ever
granted. The favor was to take the youngest Dragon and to hide her
inside their Inn. Now you say that this is of course impossible a
Dragon of it's size hidden inside a building, but remember my friend
this was a time of magic and Dragons are the most magical of creatures.
So as the rest of the Dragon's fought off the hordes of Death
Demons
and the strongest of the creatures secured the Inn for as long as they
could,
the youngest Dragon came forth and found shelter inside the walls
of the Inn.
The
fighting outside the walls was bloody, and no one was safe from the
cursed weapons of the Death Demons.
As night approached the elder Dragon knew that their time was short. He
found a spot to meet one last time with Lord & Lady Dragon and to
give to them one of his Teeth.
" This tooth" he said "Will give you the power to leave this time
and return when you feel you should". He paused and looked to see if
anyone was near. " Watch at all times for those of the dead. They will
try and find you and destroy the last of our kind. For as long as one
of us lives the dead can not take over your world".
Lord & Lady Dragon took the tooth and tied it to a leather thong to
be either worn around the Lady's neck or kept in a box hidden in the
Inn.
They wished their
old friend
well and entered the Inn. Now as the legend goes just as the
elder Dragon died at the hand of the evil King the Inn slowly vanished
into the fog.
The King was celebrating the victory of the Dragon's end
when the Death Demons told him of one Dragon that was missing.
One very treacherous Death Demon, Draynob, had heard the Dragon
speaking to the Inn keepers and told the evil King of the vanishing
Inn.
This news put the king into a
terrible tirade and he called forth every
evil he could and cursed the Death Demons to a undeath of
terrible pain and suffering like none had ever seen. They were to
suffer this agony until they found that last Dragon, killed it, and
brought him the teeth.
It also made him strong enough
to send several of the Death Demons ,
including Draynob, into time to find the last Dragon. Of course the
King is dead, and all of the memories of this time gone are lost to us,
But one thing remains...Dragon's Head Inn.
